PHP has been around since 1995 and is widely used on the Internet. Today, it is still one of the most popular languages for website development.

PHP was originally developed by Rasmus Lerdorf at the University of California, Berkeley. He wanted to develop a scripting language that was easier to write compared to C++. The result was PHP, which stands for Hypertext Preprocessor.

PHP is a general-purpose server-side programming language. It offers features such as object-oriented programming, data abstraction and dynamic typing. PHP is also open source and can be downloaded and used for free.

Although there are now some strong alternatives to PHP, this does not mean that PHP will become obsolete or replaced in the next few years. Some reasons make the future of PHP look bright:

  • Countless large and well-known websites use PHP.
  • Wikipedia.org is based on PHP.
  • WordPress, with over 40% market share, relies on PHP.

There were programming languages before and after PHP. Many of them are rarely encountered today or are already dead. PHP, however, is alive and well. PHP has overcome decades of ups and downs and is stronger and better today than ever before.

The facts speak for themselves: PHP is a good choice today and will continue to be for the next 10 years. So PHP can undoubtedly be called a future-proof programming language.
