Do search engines show the text from "META description" in the search results?

In the past, search engines used the text in the META description as the description in the search results. Today, this is rarely the case; you should not rely on it anymore.

I just tested on several websites to see if Google and Bing, the two biggest search engines, use the text from the META description on the search results page and can confirm that this text is now ignored.

More than a year ago, I did the same test, and the text from the META description field was displayed 1:1 in the search results. In the meantime, the search engines have changed this.

The search engines now select the important text from the corresponding web page themselves and use it in the description of the web page in the search results. So you no longer have full control over what text is displayed in the description of the page.

You can no longer make the description in the search results "appealing" to get more clicks to your website – too bad.
