Anyone can name the two or three biggest search engines. The problem is that these search engines are very hungry for user data. Independent research consistently shows how search engines use data not only to present "personal" results but also to make more money.
What many Internet users don't know is that there are more than 100 other search engines that deliver somewhat inferior search results, but when it comes to data privacy, they outperform any search engine giant without a chance.
You should try the following private search engines:
- DuckDuckGo: this search engine uses hundreds of Internet resources and its own data to display the most accurate results possible. It is without a doubt the best alternative to Google, Bing, and others.
- Brave Search: there is an Internet browser of the same name that focuses on privacy. It should come as no surprise that the search engine also places a high value on privacy. The search results aren't bad either.
- MetaGer: this is another search engine that picks up data from other sources and provides it anonymously. It also offers a built-in feature to visit the websites from the search results anonymously.
- Mojeek: a pretty good search engine, is also Mojeek. The search results are compelling for both local and international searches. I would compare the quality with that of DuckDuckGo.
- Swisscows: a Swiss search engine dedicated entirely to privacy. The search results are identical to those of Bing, with the difference that no data is passed to Bing during the search.
The list contains only a fraction of all private search engines. It was important to me that only the best ones are listed, which can be used to "replace" the major search engines.
When I started to use an alternative search engine for my daily work, I was surprised at how good the alternatives have become. Most Internet users would not be able to tell the difference between well-known and alternative search engines.
