Domain names are simply the addresses under which websites can be found. They consist of three parts:

  1. the top level domain (TLD),
  2. the subdomain and
  3. the web address itself.

The TLD is the part that appears at the beginning of the URL, for example: .com or .net. Subdomains are often used to create unique URLs for each page of a website. www.example.com, for example, would be a subdomain. Finally, the web address includes the complete URL to a resource: https://www.example.com/info.

Web hosting refers to the space on a server where websites reside. This space is called a virtual machine. When you buy web hosting, you get access to a shared server.

There are two main types of web hosting: dedicated and shared.

  • Dedicated web hosting offers customers complete control over every aspect of the server because the entire server belongs to them.
  • Shared web hosting, on the other hand, offers customers limited control over certain aspects of the server because there are other customers on the server.

To create a website that can be visited on the Internet, you need a domain and web hosting. Usually, web hosting is a package that includes at least a domain and tools such as a database and email accounts.
