Seawise Giant, an oil tanker built between 1974 and 1979 by Sumitomo Heavy Industries in Yokosuka, Kanagawa, Japan, was the largest ship ever built at 458.45 m (1,504.1 ft).

Seawise Giant was longer than several of the world's tallest structures, including the 451.9 m (1,483 ft) Petronas Towers. She had the highest recorded dead weight tonnage for ships.

Her displacement when fully loaded was 657,019 tons. In comparison, the displacement of the RMS Titanic was 53,147 tons, more than 13 times less.

With a weighted draft of 81 feet (24.6 m), she was the heaviest self-propelled ship ever and could not pass through the English Channel, the Suez Canal, or the Panama Canal. She is considered the largest self-propelled ship ever built.

During the Iran-Iraq War in 1988, the ship was sunk but was eventually rescued and put back into service. The ship was converted into a floating storage and offloading (FSO) unit in 2004 and stationed in the Al Shaheen oil field off the coast of Qatar.

In December 2009, the vessel was sold to Indian ship breakers and given the new name "Mont" for a final voyage. After passing through Indian customs, the ship was taken to the Alang Ship Breaking Yard in Alang, Gujarat, where it was beached for dismantling. The ship's dismantling was completed in 2010.
